As you make progress learning how to play sudoku, you will come across techniques that look similar to ones you have already learned but on your way to becoming an expert sudoku solver, the difference between them will become clearer as you practice.

That is the case with the XY-Wing.  In shape, it looks a little like the X-Wing we saw in the last technique post, with a square of cells containing several candidates.

How to solve your sudoku website issues.

A little bit more site maintenance today before we move on to a few more challenging topics.  As much as I would like to devote my time to helping you to solve your sudoku puzzles, I needed to find a way to let newcomers who are just starting to play with sudoku find their way round the site.

I have added some categories on the right hand side that should let you jump to articles that match your level of expertise with sudoku. You will notice that there are no “Expert” Sudoku Techniques yet, you will have to be patient.

If you find a particular article really useful, don’t forget to hit the bookmarking buttons beneath each entry to let other sufferers(!) know where you found it. I have tried to include the major bookmarking sites, let me know if there are others you would like added.

Sudoku Techniques (part 7) – The X-Wing

How do you feel about your progress as a sudoku solver? By now, you should be picking up most puzzles without fear but there are plenty more sudoku tips to learn before we are finished with this subject. In theory, the subject for this post should be hidden triples and quads. I will confess to finding them a bit boring, so I have jumped on a bit. Think of them in exactly the same way as a hidden pair is related to a naked pair and you should get the idea very quickly. If anyone is desperate to see them in action, let me know and I will do another quick post.

Anyway, the subject for today is one close to the hearts of Star Wars fans the world over. This technique is called the X-Wing and you will see why as we look at an example. Study rows 2 and 7 in the image below.

Sudoku for kids review

Sudoku for Kids

Sudoku for Kids

The second in a sporadic series of sudoku product reviews.  I came across Sudoku for Kids when my two daughters started asking me what I was doing with all the numbers in the “box thing”! Both of them are pretty bright (proud parent thing going on here) and have good number skills but I thought it might help their logical thinking skills too.

Sudoku for Kids starts with the same premise, that childrens’ brains need a bit of stretching in different directions as they grow and then it provides a package which walks them through the early stages of becoming a sudoku solver.  All of the puzzles can be printed out and start really low down with a 4×4 grid just to get them in the right thinking mode.

The buying experience is the usual internet fare, sales page with a load of testimonies. I just jumped to the price!  Paypal is the delivery method….what you haven’t got paypal yet (and you’re on the internet)…get that sorted out, no matter what else you do :-)

If you’re the type that needs to know the “damage” beforehand – this package is selling for $7.99 and is delivered electronically. You can reach it directly here.
